What this site is
Calm Body & Mind is an independent editorial site covering nervous-system and stress-relief wellness products: vagus nerve devices, sleep and wind-down routines, and the research behind both.
We are a small editorial team of researchers and writers. We are not doctors, not physiotherapists, and not clinicians of any kind. We say that plainly because a lot of wellness sites imply medical authority they do not have, and readers deserve to know which kind of site they are reading.
What we do have is a research process, stated below, and a policy of showing our sources so you can check us rather than trust us.
How we research a product
1. Manufacturer sources, with dates
Specifications, box contents, warranty terms and pricing come from the manufacturer's own published pages. We record the date we checked, and we say so on the page. Promotional prices in this category change often, so a price without a date is close to useless.
2. Published research, cited by name
Where peer-reviewed research exists, we cite it with author, journal and a direct link, not as a vague "studies show". If the research is preliminary, small, or funded by the manufacturer, we say that in the same sentence rather than in a footnote nobody reads.
3. Side-by-side comparison against real alternatives
We compare published specifications across competing products on the criteria that actually change the buying decision: how it is worn, session length, consumables, session limits, subscription terms, return window and warranty. We check competitor pricing on their own sites, on the same date.
4. Publicly available user feedback
We read what buyers report, and we look for repeated patterns rather than isolated complaints or isolated praise. A single angry review tells you nothing. The same complaint appearing forty times tells you something.
What we do and what we refuse to do
👍 We do
- Link the research directly so you can read it yourself
- Say when the evidence is mixed instead of picking the version that reads better
- Publish drawbacks alongside strengths
- Date our price checks and update them when they change
- Disclose our affiliate relationships on every page that has one
- Correct pages when we get something wrong
⚠ We do not
- Claim to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition
- Invent an author, a credential or a medical reviewer
- Publish fabricated testimonials or invented user quotes
- Present a paid placement as an editorial opinion
- Claim to have clinically tested a device ourselves
- Promise results, because nobody honestly can
An example of what "we say when evidence is mixed" means
In our guide to calming your nervous system before bed, we cover the widely repeated instruction to make your exhale longer than your inhale.
Slow breathing itself has solid support for increasing parasympathetic activity. But when we went looking for evidence on the ratio specifically, we found a 2024 review reporting nine studies that reached four different conclusions, with no definitive answer. Almost every article on the subject states the rule as settled fact. We published the disagreement instead, because a reader who tries 4-7-8 breathing, finds the counting stressful and gives up deserves to know the counting was never the important part.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to. It costs us a cleaner-sounding article and it is the right call.
How this site is funded
Calm Body & Mind earns affiliate commission. When a reader buys a product through one of our links, we may receive a commission from the retailer at no additional cost to the reader.
Three things that commission does not do:
- It does not change the price you pay. The price is the same whether you use our link or go direct.
- It does not buy a recommendation. We have no arrangement in which favourable coverage is exchanged for payment, and we do not accept payment to review a product positively.
- It does not hide. Every page carrying an affiliate link says so, in plain language, on that page.
We think disclosure is the minimum, not the achievement. The more useful commitment is the one above it: the drawbacks stay on the page even when they are inconvenient for us.
Medical disclaimer
Everything on this site is general information about wellness products and habits. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a treatment plan.
The devices we cover are sold as wellness products, not as medical devices, and are not approved to treat any condition. If you have a pacemaker, an implanted electrical or metal device, epilepsy, a heart condition, carotid artery issues, or you are pregnant, talk to a doctor before using any stimulation device. If you are dealing with persistent insomnia or anxiety that affects your daily life, that deserves a proper medical assessment rather than a routine from a website.
Corrections and contact
If you find an error, a stale price, or a claim we have not supported properly, tell us and we will fix it. Corrections are made on the page itself and the update date is changed, so you can see the page has moved.

Where to start
If you are new here, the plain-English guide to the vagus nerve explains the mechanism everything else on the site refers back to. Our main product review is of Pulsetto, compared against Truvaga, Apollo Neuro and Sensate.
